Our Curriculum: Orthodox and Classical
Today we are witnessing a widespread return to the tried-and-true educational methods that yielded us many of the finest minds in the history of Western Civilization. Classical Education is surging in popularity in both private and home schools as educators and families search for methodologies which will yield students who have both a sound foundation in facts and a well-honed logical faculty.

The Trivium: A Proven Approach
| |
In the West, the Greeks are often credited with many of the highest and best contributions to educated society as we know it. The time-tested Greek educational model is known as the Trivium (literally: "threefold way"), referring to its three stages: Grammar, Logic and Rhetoric, each stage corresponding with a key phase in childhood cognitive development.
During the Grammar Stage (elementary grades), students absorb language and formulas during a period when the ability to assimilate raw information is unparalleled. During the Logic or Dialectic Stage (middle grades), analytical reasoning and organizational skills are developed. Finally, during the Rhetoric Stage (high school), students develop the ability to correlate and synthesize information and ideas and learn to express these understandings meaningfully in speech, writing, music, art and other media.

The Path of Orthodoxy
| |
Whereas the three-fold way of the Trivium lends itself to excellence of mind, the three-fold way of Orthodoxy (purification, sanctification and enlightenment) is itself the highest calling of man: the pursuit of fellowship and union with Holy God.
The teachings of the Scriptures and the riches of the Church are revealed in each area of academic inquiry, referring us again and again to the true purpose of our education. Prayers, readings of the lives of the Saints, participation in daily services and service projects are all woven into the daily educational process as natural expressions of the faith, obedience and service integral to Orthodox life.

Materials
In order to produce excellent results, we follow proven educational methods and, where possible, incorporate the use of original source materials. Students hear about important discoveries, ideas and events from the voices of those who were historically closest to them. They also explore how these discoveries, ideas and events impacted the course of human history. Historic treatises in each area of study are supplemented with relevant modern publications where appropriate.
